Janis Merritt

Janis R. Merritt of Madison, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 after a long illness she fought bravely.Janis was born on November 10, 1946 to Brooks and Louana Porter in Kentucky. Her family relocated in 1960 to Marshall, Michigan where she lived many years. She moved to Tennessee in the 1990's.Janis enjoyed reading on her Kindle, playing Mahjong, watching many black & white westerns and being around her family. She loved to tell stories of family and she had many to tell. She was very loving and made sure you knew it. She is a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be missed tremendously.She is survived by her children and spouses: Lisa Wireman Rodriguez, Gary Merritt and Amy (David) Nichols. Grandchildren and spouses: David Wireman, Greg (Alex) Wireman, Matthew Merritt, Cody Merritt, Patience (Will) Banks, Gatlin Nichols. Great-grandchildren: Morgan, McKenzie Lee, Mackenzie Hope and Lucas.She is also survived by siblings and spouses: Veda McKinney, Barb (David) Marquette, Dondeena (Brian) Hammond, Brooky Porter and Robert (Libby) Porter. Many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly also survive.Cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be spread at a later date. In her memory, please make a donation to the American Kidney Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
