Charles Michael “Mike” Hearington, 70, passed from this world at his home in Franklin on Tuesday, March 26 after a marathon fight with liver cancer.
Devoted husband of Mary “Nell” Hearington of 45 years, Mike also leaves his daughter Holly Hearington Just and two grandsons he and Nell adopted, Connor Michael Hearington and Austin Bradley Clark after the death of their daughter, Elizabeth “Ashley” Seavers in 2011, the same year Mike was diagnosed with liver cancer. Mike also leaves his sisters, Rosanne Thomas of Olive Branch, MS and Suzanne Thompson of Evergreen, CO.
Mike was predeceased by a brother, John Mitchell Hearington.
Mike underwent a liver transplant, survived a battle with hepatitis and dodged the slings and arrows of life with ever-present joy. A successful roofing products representative for Tremco for decades, Mike launched his own company after retirement from corporate America called ELD: Electronic Leak Detection and served clients across the southeast and Midwest. “Memphis Mike,” as he was known throughout Middle Tennessee, devoted the past forty years of his life to helping people recover from alcoholism as he did himself four decades ago. Born and raised in Memphis to Frank and Rosalie Hearington who pre-deceased him, Mike spent his early life in his hometown, served in the U.S. Army and then worked various jobs before finding his calling in the roofing industry. A man of peace, Mike became an active member of Veterans for Peace and marched to protest America’s armed conflicts.
Please consider a gift to a charity of your choice in Mike’s memory. Mike and Nell made a gift to Midsouth Sober Living, 1950 Madison Ave., Memphis, TN 38104 for the completion of the Memphis Alano Club before his passing. Please note your memorial gift is for the Memphis Alano Club or “MAC.”
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Mike’s life of loving service in the near future.
