Douglas Delano Woodlee was born in Spencer, TN, on February 9th, 1942 to Shirley Marie Curtis Woodlee & Thomas Bascal Woodlee. Douglas went home to the Lord on October 30, 2023. He was a member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church and was a proud retiree from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his 44 years at the TBI, Doug served as an undercover narcotics agent, a crime scene investigator, the manager of the fingerprint identification unit, and the director of the TN Instant Check System unit. He was instrumental in creating and implementing the laws for background and fingerprint checks for a safer Tennessee. Doug graduated from Van Buren County High School in 1960 and attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, before obtaining his associate’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
Doug was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He was an avid reader and genealogist. Through his genealogy work he connected many distant relatives through social media and consistent contact. In recent years he served as the vice president of the Warren County Genealogical and Historical Association.
Doug was preceded in death by his late wife, Charlotte Cornman Woodlee, his parents, Shirley and Thomas B. Woodlee, and his brother, Paschal Woodlee. He is survived by his beloved wife of eight years, Joyce Stout; three sisters, Barbara Woodlee Moss (Levon), Judith Woodlee Bruce, and Donna Woodlee Hancock; two children, Jessica Kathryn Andes (Nathan) of Alexandria, VA, and Thomas Bryan Woodlee (Stephanie) of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Houston Woodlee, Charlotte Andes, Caleb Andes, and Isaac Andes. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Christy Bennett, Angela Hunter, and William Lee (Rebecca) and 12 step grandchildren and one great grandson whom he loved as his own; six nieces and nephews, 11 grandnieces and nephews, as well as many relatives and friends who were near and dear to his heart.
Visitation will be held in the chapel at Donelson Church of Christ on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 1:30 pm, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm.
