Emalyl Mize Israel

March 25, 1939 — August 8, 2024

Nashville

Emalyl Mize Israel passed away on August 8, 2024, at the age of 85.

Emalyl was born on March 25, 1939, in Clanton, Alabama, to Allen Martin Mize and Louise Crowe Mize. She married Charles Ward Israel, Jr. in September of 1960 and moved to Miami, Florida. She was a devoted wife to Charles until his passing in 1993 and a loving mother to Laura and Chuck.

Emalyl was a dedicated member of Kendall United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She cared passionately for children and youth; she had been a Girl Scout leader, a head of the Howard Drive Elementary PTA, a volunteer for the Linda Ray Intervention Center, and a tireless volunteer for a multitude of other charitable endeavors. A lover of plants and flowers, she was a long-time member of the Tropical Fern and Exotic Plant Society, and she won several awards for her entries in the annual Fern & Exotic Plant Show. A renowned artist as a youth, in her later years Emalyl loved arts, crafts, knitting, and crochet. She also had a generous spirit which left an impact on many.

Emalyl was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Laura Smith and Chuck (Sarah) Israel, grandsons Austin, Cameron, and Connor, her sister Ruth Eloise Higginbotham, her brother Charles Mize, beloved nieces and nephews Lisa (Clay) Holland, Forest (Candace) Higginbotham, Lee (Dawn) Higginbotham, and Rhonda McLelland, along with many great nieces and great nephews.

A service to remember Emalyl will take place on Saturday, August 24, at 10:00 AM at Kendall United Methodist Church in Miami, Florida. In honor of Emalyl’s benevolent nature, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home (now known as Residing Hope) in lieu of flowers.

Nashville Cremation Center is honored to be entrusted with Mrs. Israel's arrangements. Please visit her guestbook to leave a thoughtful note for the family.
