Geralda Shockey, age 78 of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on February 8, 2018 due to complications with pneumonia. Geralda was born February 6, 1940 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Houstin Shockey and Janice Brighouse.She is survived by her daughter, Kamala Hall and husband, Randy Hall; brothers, Jeb Brighouse and wife, Sandy Brighouse, and Peter Shockey; sisters, Christine Katcher and husband, Danny Katcher, and Ann Cripps; nieces, Christina Shockey, Grace Shockey, Perri Katcher, Ani Katcher, and Tracy Brighouse; and nephews, Mathew Katcher, David Katcher and Gary Brighouse.Geralda was a truly gifted portrait artist, illustrator, art teacher, and mathematics teacher. Affectionately dubbed "The Renaissance Woman" by friends, she held a B. A. in mathematics from the University of California in Berkeley, and a California teaching credential in mathematics and art. She studied art at the California College of Art in Oakland, California. She graduated from Eagle Rock High School, Los Angeles, California in 1957. She taught art, with a focus on geometry, for the San Francisco Parks and Recreation, at the Tennessee Art League, and at Cheekwood in Nashville. Geralda has exhibited her art at Cheekwood, Pla-za Art, the Tennessee Art League, and the American Cultural Center in Amman, Jordan. She worked in oil paint, watercolor, pastels, charcoal, and etching.She lived in Los Angelos, CA, Berkley, CA, Beirut, Lebanon, Amman, Jordan, Rhodes, Greece, Milan, Italy, New York City, NY, San Francisco, CA, Alameda, CA, Annapolis, MD and Nashville, TN. All who know her were blessed with her uniqueness, humor, culinary inventiveness, thoughtful teachings, masterful artwork and never-ending youthful spirit.
