Well known creative drama teacher, Jean Prince Waggoner, passed away at home on January 14, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her two daughters, Connie Prince Horton (Dick) and Patricia Prince Kennedy (Jim); grandchildren, Margaret Horton Hollis (Brad), Patrick Kennedy (Natalie), and Connor Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Maddie and Brooks Hollis; step-daughters, Kathy Waggoner Quintanilla (Jimmy) and Amy Waggoner Wells (Tim) and their children, Jocelyn Quintanilla and Patrick, Haley, and Michael Wells. She is also survived by a brother, David Raymond Kennedy, Jr. (Bernie). She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Waggoner and her parents, David Raymond and Margaret Alexander Kennedy. Jean graduated from New York University with a Masters of Arts degree in Theatre Education and a Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre-Arts Education from Empire State College of New York. She received the Distinguished Service Award for theatre in the State of Tennessee and served as President of the Tennessee Theatre Association. Jean served as artist-in-schools in Tennessee and was Education/Creative Drama Director at the Nashville Academy Theatre. She was elected Chairman of Children’s Theatre for the Southeastern Theatre Conference and Regional Governor of Children’s Theatre of America. She directed children in promotional television productions and appeared in Off-Broadway musicals while studying in New York. She taught at Harding Academy, Saint Bernard Academy, and in Maury County schools. At The Oak Hill School, she taught creative drama and theatre for nineteen years and developed “Drama with Curriculum”, writing plays to enrich class study. She was adored by her students and honored by Oak Hill with a “Jean Prince Day”. Jean lived with a stage presence matched only by her love for children and the theatre throughout her career. Although she received some of the highest accolades in her profession, she was most proud of her family and being “Honey” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on January 20th, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37220, with the Reverend Dr. Sandra L. Randleman officiating. Visitation will be held in Cheek House, First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Oak Hill School, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37220.
