Jeannine Winter Bowers, age 98, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023. She was born to Joseph and Jeanne Winter in Charleville, France on June 11, 1925. Later, the family moved to Nancy, France where she spent her teenage years living under the Nazi occupation. Towards the end of the war, Mrs. Bowers helped American troops with document translations. It was during this time she met her late husband of 68 years, E. H. Bowers, Jr, an American soldier who was stationed in Nancy.
After coming to Nashville and raising her family, Mrs. Bowers taught French at Peabody College, Peabody Demonstration School, and Montgomery Bell Academy before her retirement in 1992. Her true joys were her family, reading, traveling, and her many pets.
She is survived by her children Phillip Bowers, Jan (Robert) Pruitt, and Liz Connor, three grandsons, Kenneth (Ashley) Pruitt, David (Hannah) Pruitt, and Dillon (Savannah) Poindexter, and five great-grandchildren, Hope, Frances, Isaac, Anson, and Brinley.
Services will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023, at West End United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family is from 12:30 pm -2:30 pm in the Bishop’s Parlor followed by a private family service at the church columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Nashville Humane Society, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
