Jonnie M. Speight of Goodlettsville, TN passed away May 11, 2024 at the age of 79. He is preceded in death by parents James Estill and Ada Evelyn Speight, brother James E. Speight, Jr., grandson Devon Hunter Speight, niece Michelle Speight Cooper, and in-laws Charles and Dorothy Cummings.
He is survived by wife Joyce Cummings Speight, daughter Hallie (David) Sloan, son Charles (Anita), son Michael, and “adopted son” Norman Taulbee.
Also survived by granddaughters, Victoria (Gregory) Vinsant, Olivia (Isaac) Hughes, Destiney Speight and Ariel Hayden. He had two great grandsons, Parker and Nolan Vinsant, as well step-granddaughters Jessica and Ashley Hayden.
Also survived by sister-in-law Connie Bennett, brother-in-law Wayne Bennett, nephew Brad (Paige) Bennett, nieces Amy Bennett (Andrea), Pam (Steve) Pardue, Kimberly (Tommy) Profitt, Megan (Jacob) Larvie, Melissa Speight, and a host of cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
He had an extended family of friends at the Tennessee River in the Cuba Landing community in Humphreys County that he was very close to.
He had many close friends he had worked with since the sixties at DuPont, Reemay, Fiberweb and Berry Global.
He volunteered for Metro since 1969 in Civil Defense, which is now the Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM). He was dedicated to his service and to his fellow volunteers.
When he was not at the plant or on-call with OEM, he could likely be found somewhere on a tractor.
A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Cummings family cemetery.
