Louise Armistead Martin passed away on Thursday, November 18. She was born on September 12, 1929 in Nashville Tennessee. She was predeceased by her parents, Katherine and Parkes Armistead, and her sisters, Katherine A. Brandon, and Martha A. Leake.
Louise is survived by her children: Joseph Wade Martin (Debbie), Hendersonville, NC, Louise M. Baird (John) and Katherine M. Schumacher (John), Atlanta, GA. She is survived by her grandchildren: Jennie Ray (Mark), Richmond, VA. Joseph O. Martin (Sarah), Auburn, Alabama, Jonathan Y. Baird (Mariana), Keswick, Virginia, Martin Baird, Los Angeles, California, Louise S. Timmons (Drew), Atlanta and John F. Schumacher, Jr. (Kristen), Atlanta. She also leaves twelve great-grandchildren and two special nieces: Lee B. Barrett (Kim) and Elizabeth Brandon Sulkowski (Joseph).
Louise graduated Ward Belmont school and attended Vanderbilt where she met her husband, Joseph O. Martin Jr. They married in June of 1950 and celebrated over 68 wonderful years together. They traveled extensively all around the globe and enjoyed hiking, particularly in the Smokies. Louise also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the same bridge club for almost 50 years. Gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles and needlework were additional hobbies. She was every bit a true southern lady; gracious, kind and caring. She was also always right; but sadly, she never perfected her whispering skills. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Centennial Club, Belle Meade Country Club and the Colonial Dames.
Her last years were spent at Blakeford where she made friends with many wonderful people as well as a little dog named Otis. The family would very much like to thank the staff at Blakeford and Woodcrest (particularly Delores) and Alive Hospice (especially Hadassah) for their kind service.
A private burial ceremony will be conducted at a later date. In memory of Louise, donations may be made to Alive Hospice or First Presbyterian Church.
