Robert Gorman

d. June 11, 2015

Robert A. “Bob” Gorman, 87, a wonderful husband, father, grand- and great-grandfather, uncle, and brother passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2015.Bob was gracious and charming with a mischievous sense of humor-we'll miss his support and encouragement, his warm smile and the twinkle in his eyes when he teased. He was a mentor in both his work and his family life, and a role model for us all. Dad sure knew a good thing when he married our mom, Millie Rechenmacher Gorman. They were married 64 ½ years and were devoted to one another. He loved his children and delighted in his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren were special gifts. Bob enjoyed golf with his buddies at the famed Chicago Golf Club, and taught many of us to enjoy the game. In 2003, after a successful career that included 25 years as an executive at Kroehler Furniture and 25 years as owner of several La-Z-Boy Showcase Shoppes, Bob and Millie retired to Wilderness in Naples, Florida. Retirement allowed Bob more time with Millie, his family, his friends and golf.We know Dad's reunion with those that preceded him in death, including his son and business partner Richard (Dick) Gorman, his grandchildren Julia Duncker and Rudy Gorman, and his son-in-law Tom Hazinski must have been particularly joyful. In addition to his wife Millie, Bob will be missed by his daughters Mary Fran Hazinski (Ames) Davis and Barb (Bo) Travis; along with sons Robert (Kathy) Gorman and John (Nelfa) Gorman; daughter-in-law, Connee Cowan Gorman; grandchildren Michael (Stephanie) Hazinski, Matthew (Erinn) Duncker, Alyssa and Remy Gorman, Nick and Joe Gorman and Maya (Chris) Hofacker; great-grandchildren, Lucy, Tommy, and Max; sister Dorothy (George) Fyock and the many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. Our family is very grateful to Dr. James Powers and Dr. Elizabeth Ferluga and Vanderbilt, the wonderful staff at Brookdale Green Hills Cumberland Senior Living, the staff and volunteers from Alive Hospice and the caregivers from Senior Helpers for their assistance these past months.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, at 10 am at Christ the King Church, 3001 Belmont Blvd, Nashville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville Tennessee 37203.
