Robert Ewing Reese passed away suddenly at age 90, surrounded by his family, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN on July 16th, 2024.
Robert was born on June 22, 1934 to Paul and Christine Reese in Aspen Hill, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Reese; brother, Richard Reese; nephew, Paul Reese and many other beloved relatives and friends.
Robert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Bethany Reese; two grandchildren, Sara and Lindsay Reese; brother, David Reese; and many special friends and family members including but not limited to Pat Reese, Steve Reese, George Belt, Butch Norton and the Pursley family.
The kindness and caring of the staff of Hartmann Plantation in Lebanon, Tennessee and his neighbors, especially his upstairs neighbor Dustin Krusa, allowed him to keep living independently as he wanted until his last day. We will always be grateful for all of you.
Robert was especially proud of his service in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cold War. After his service, he enjoyed his 50+ year career in the automotive parts industry at Cumberland Dodge, Regent Dodge, House of Parts (Hendersonville), Earl Dunn Pontiac and Weller Auto Parts.
A special thank you to Ron and Karen Davenport and Ethan Raymer for the love and support during Robert’s final hours.
We also wish to thank WEMA, Lebanon Fire, the helicopter crew with Vanderbilt Life Flight, and the staff, nurses and physicians at the Emergency Room at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and the Emergency Room and Medical Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Each person we encountered on July 16th showed us love and compassion and treated Robert with great respect and the highest level of care. You are our heroes.
Robert requested to be cremated and to have no service. He preferred to be remembered as he was, always positive and ready to go out and do things, living life to its fullest and in exceptional health for his age right up until his last day. Just last month, we celebrated his 90th birthday by taking him to Destin for six days and eating oceanside up and down the Gulf Coast and visiting a military museum.
You can honor his memory by eating his favorite meal at his favorite restaurant, chicken livers with gravy, at Uncle Bud’s Restaurant in Donelson. Our last dinner with him there was the Friday night before his passing and we are truly blessed and thankful to have so many similar memories.
We love him and we will miss him for the rest of our lives.
Nashville Cremation Center is honored to be entrusted with Mr. Reese's arrangements. Please visit his guestbook to leave a thoughtful note for the family.
