Stephen Joseph "Steve" Burns, age 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, attended by his Father and three brothers at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. Born May 16, 1956 in Columbia, TN, he lived most of his life in Nashville.Steve will be remembered for years of kind service to his family, church, friends, and community. Steve attended Catholic schools through college, earning a degree in Computer Science and Accounting with Summa Cum Laude honors. However, it was his kind heart and sweet nature that led him to his life's work-helping society's ignored at Nashville's Mental Health Co-operative, a career spanning twenty five years. Beyond his job he volunteered at Christ the King Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Boy Scouts of America and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. His love of helping shone brightest among his family and friends. Steve joined his uncle Jim in driving his grandfather around the country to visit his far-flung family in his grandfather's waning years. Steve rarely drove anywhere alone, preferring to share his time with others needing a ride, or just company, at meals or Mass.Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Jane Rhodes Burns and nephew, Matthew Joseph Burns.He is survived by his father, Martin J. Burns; three brothers, Martin Rhodes (Georgeana) Burns, Tim Burns and Frank Burns; two sisters, Mary Julia "MJ" (Joel) Vosburg of Crested Butte, CO, and Jane (Todd) Wisialowski of Old Saybrook, CT; six nephews and nieces, Michael Burns, Ashley Burns, Chris Burns, Zach Vosburg, Emma Vosburg, Kyle Wisialowski, and Peter Wisialowski; and two great nephews, Lockelyn Burns-Brocker and Bryceson Burns.A memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Dexter Brewer, at Christ the King Catholic Church on Belmont Boulevard in Nashville at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 23rd. Friends are invited to join the family afterward at the Parish center for food and celebration.
