Ricky (Rick) Crockett was one of six children born to Leslie and Jean Crockett. As a child, he grew up on Lenore Street (now part of “Shelby Hills”) during a time where there no fences or rules except to be home by dark. Neighbors were like family, and he spent countless hours in the backyards, where he perfected his sports skills. He attended Kirkpatrick Elementary, East Junior High, East High School, and Tennessee Tech University.
He loved sports and was himself a pretty good athlete in the games of baseball and track. He ran cross country for East and was coached by Junior Ward. He attended Tennessee Tech on a track scholarship.
Rick lived modestly, never needing much, and remained a resident of East Nashville where he lived with his father and brothers. He was a fixture in the neighborhood, where he could be found almost any time of the day enjoying a stroll to the corner market. Never one for crowds, he preferred a few close friends including Buddy Rainey, Jacob Aberle, and William Boggess, who affectionately knew him as “Doc.” He loved sharing stories of his past and family and had a passion for making people laugh, music, the Tennessee Vols, and Titans.
He was a beloved brother, friend, cousin, and neighbor and will be missed immensely. The family would like to thank his friends whose loyalty and love endured beyond measure.
