May 14, 1958 — January 16, 2025

Rolla

Tony Edward Franks, 66, of Rolla, MO passed away at Centennial Hospital in Nashville, TN on January 16th, 2025. He was born in Tuscaloosa, AL to father Bobby Franks and mother Sherry (Moore) Franks. He was proceeded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna (Franks) Horn. Tony is survived by his wife of 10 years, Myra Zimmer Franks and many family and friends who loved him.

Tony will be missed by his surviving family, son B.J. Ryan and wife, Taylor of Birmingham, AL, and their three children, Baker, Paisley and Gray. Tony’s daughter, Jamie Ryan and her two children also reside in Alabama. Tony’s sister Diane Caldwell resides in LA. Tony will be missed by four nephews, Wesley Horn, Randall Horn, Russ Caldwell and Blake Caldwell.

Most remember Tony for his strength, natural athletic ability, work ethic, never-ending dreams and desire to make people laugh. He was proud of his time working as an industrial Insulator in various locations in Canada and Alaska including the North Slope of Alaska.

Tony’s interests included Alabama Crimson Tide SEC Football “Roll Tide”, diving/water sports, the great outdoors and his beloved farm near Rolla, MO, where he and his wife raise registered Belted Galloway cattle. He had a most tender spot for “his critters” and wildlife especially in recent years and remained diligent in their care and protection.

Some considered Tony a bit larger than life itself. Stories of Tony’s adventurous life will outlive him through the memories of his family and friends. A “celebration of his life” is tentatively planned in the South in spring 2025.

Tony’s Christian faith was strengthened during his most difficult cancer journey. Psalm 91:1-16 was a source of comfort and his silver cross necklace inscribed with “The Lord’s Prayer” he cherished and embraced when in pain into his final days.

Memorial gifts may be made to: Phelps County Animal Rescue, 745 E. Springfield St., St. James, MO 65559 or Landmark Baptist Church, 10175 Old St. James Rd. Rolla, MO 65401.
